Sand Lake is the only Lake in the Lake Superior Provincial Park that allows motorized outboards. It is one of the best known lakes around and offers excellent trout fishing with access to many, many lakes in the immediate vicinity. You can get to the lake by road, by way of Wawa and the Anjigami Lake Road, by rail ( from Sault Ste Marie or Hawk Junction) and by float plane. It is a big lake and the Sand River flows into Lake Superior which offers great 3 or 4 day canoe trip. This cabin is over 1200 square feet in size and features three bedrooms, a flush toilet, is furnished, has a propane furnace, lites (from kerosene, propane and electricity), a solar system with 5 deep cell batteries and is insulated. This is a turn key operation with 1 13 foot Lund boat, a 7.5 HP Johnson, a 3500 and 5000 generator, 17 foot canoe, chainsaw, radio, TV, DVD player, tools, lawn mower, weed eater, full wood pile, and 8 20# propane bottles. This is a rare find and a place one can get to some quality fishing, enjoy the wilderness to its maximum or just sit, read and relax. |

Hammer Lake is located right beside Hwy 17 N, just a three hour ride from Sault Ste Marie and the International Bridge at the top of Michigan. I stayed at the H&C Family Resort and rented a two bedroon cottage that had heat, kitchen, 3 pc bath and a 14' boat was included. It may not be too fancy but was clean and gave me everything that I required. Henry and Caroel own the lodge and they have everything you will need during your stay. Some things they provide are gas, bait, a restaurant, propane, tackle, LCBO outlet and knowledge and history they were happy to pass on. We caught pike, walleye and whitefish and the Friday night supper we provided for ourselves, of all you can eat fish, was much appreciated. It is approximately ½ mile from the landing to the island with a sandy shoreline to beach your boat. The cabin cannot be seen from the lake because of all the trees. The cabin has a front deck across the front as well as a small balcony on the second floor. The main floor is all finished with parquet flooring, drywall, very good windows, and an open concept living room and kitchen plus one bedroom. There is a rear side entrance into a mudroom with a tub surround plus hot water tank. The room is all open with an entrance to the kitchen and requires finishing if you want privacy when you take a shower but is still a hot shower never less. There is a metal roof on the cabin and a gravity feed water system. The second floor has a staircase to it but is not finished. Taxes are $7.91 a YEAR.
